OCTOBER 2004
1. News
Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter, the monthly
publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways of earning money
from home.
Virtual World Direct
Although one of the most successful online businesses around at the moment, VWD's statistics showed that about two-thirds of those who started to completed the Application Form, didn't reach the end, possibly deterred by the cost of joining the business. To help convert some of these visitors into members, VWD have introduced a new "Player Membership" with those joining to promote the business renamed Affiliate members. So now if you just want to benefit from the syndicate system to play the lottery without getting involved in promoting it to others, you can by paying just the £5 a week e-Lottery Subscription - which can be paid on a 1-week,
2-week or 4-week cycle.
And if you're still looking for a business to join, maybe now is the time to join
Virtual World Direct, as this new option, and the newly revamped site can only lead
to an increase in interest. For more details of both player and affiliate options

Get Your Home on TV
Primarily for anyone living within an hour or so of London, I've come across a new way to make money from property without any buying or selling. Life Locations provide properties for use in Film, TV & Photographic Shoots. Recent film work at some of the private houses they represent have included Big Brother interviews, the new Woody Allen film & Footballers Wives to name a few.
There is a constant demand for a wide variety of properties and they are frequently asked for typical houses, council flats or even basic offices etc. You can earn anything from hundreds to thousands of pounds a day, depending on the property and the type of production.
Properties are very easy to register for free on-line, and it only takes a couple of minutes to do, so what have you got to lose.
Visit http://www.homeworkinguk.com/tvhomes.htm for more information.
Surveys
Online surveys continue to be a popular means of earning a few pounds,so once
again I've been scouring the net for sites. You'll find a few more on
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/surveys.htm
New Site
Subscriber Patsy Young has set up a small sole trader business called Coming Alive Publications and is producing a lot of good quality pamphlets and booklets on a variety of topics including articles on earning extra money, many of which you can start at home. She still needs to add descriptions to the various titles,
but you can see the range of titles on offer at
http://www.comingalive.co.uk
Web Hosting
For anyone looking for professional web hosting, Lycos are running a great promotion at the moment,
with a free £50 Google Adwords voucher with every package as well as a CD full of relevant software, but if that's not enough to tempt you, I've discovered how to save a further £10. Whilst attempting to place an order myself last weekend, I was unable to complete the order as I'd inadvertently blocked all Lycos cookies. I realised the problem the next day, but by then their computer system had identified that I'd had a problem and as compensation and to encourage me back to their site, they offered me a £10 discount. So check out the site and if you like what you see, start to place an order but stop before the end and just
wait for an e-mail. Full details from http://www.homeworkinguk.com/lycos.htm
Scam Warning
The Internet has always been full of scams and the ease at which sites can be set up in a new name, offering an identical service means it is impossible to guarantee they'll still be around when you've finally earned a payout, but there are some basic checks you can make yourself before getting involved and a couple
of e-mails I've received this month have reminded me of the importance of these.
Check out the standing of the company. If they've been around for years and paying out regularly then the chances are greatly increased of getting paid, but do remember to, at the very least, make a search on Google using the name of the company and the word "scam"
Do a search on the domain at whois.net. If the site was only formed within the last month or two, and is registered in Eastern Europe or Asia, your chances of payment are slim. Try doing a Google search on the address at which the domain is registered for further information.
Make sure you understand what is on offer, particularly if you are required
to make any payment in advance. If the site is full of dollar signs and how much
you can make by signing up others with little or no reference to a product or
service, then this is no more than a recruitment scam, which can only fail long term. Don't assume a phrase means what you want it to mean, and don't hesitate to contact the company for more information. Legitimate companies always answer enquiries
(but remember your own spam filters may prevent you from receiving the reply)
Read the terms and conditions fully. I know these can be long and boring but this is where hidden clauses can completely destroy your chances of payment. One particular scam for advertising had a term that required 90% of all traffic to come from Korea yet all the ads were targeting America and Britain. Another common clause is to have a high minimum payout threshold, which isn't rolled over if you fail to meet monthly quotas.
Never do business with anyone you can't contact. Do they provide a genuine trading address, or just an accommodation address that can disappear overnight? If they supply a phone number, see whether you can speak to a real person, or whether it is simply a recorded message or voicemail.
Contact them by e-mail to see if you get a reply.
Only if you're completely happy, should you launch into full promotion. If you have any doubts, but feel the offer is perfect for you, tread warily
and don't invest large sums of money, that you're not happy to lose.

3. Featured Freebies
Christmas must be on the way, as this month I've got a whole host of freebies for you:
Free OnlineTraining Courses (England only)
Vision2learn from Creating Careers offers a range of free interactive courses, all leading to nationally recognised qualifications. Students are able to do all the studying for any one of twelve available courses online, with ongoing support being provided from a fully qualified Further Education tutor. Courses are funded by the Learning
and Skills Council, and are accredited through a college local to the student.
Free courses are usually available to any resident over 16 in England,
as long as this residency has been for purposes other than full-time study.
One in particular that I felt would be relevant to most subscribers is entitled "Entrepreneurship" . It’s ideal for anyone who is thinking of starting a business and will help you to prepare for business start-up, turn your dream into a practical business plan, understand your competitors and plan your business operations successfully.
Entrepreneurship is a 60-hour course. You can study at your own pace for as little as three hours a week so, it should take you around 4 – 6 months to complete but if you want to work faster you can – it’s entirely up to you. You'll get hints and tips and a study planner to help you build regular study slots into your busy lifestyle. You will also be assigned to a Further Education college in your area, who will then provide you with an online tutor. Your tutor will be available to help and guide you through the course. You can contact your tutor at any time using v-mail, vision2learn’s own internal messaging system and also by telephone or e-mail.
Studying Entrepreneurship leads to the accredited qualification
NCFE Advanced Certificate in Preparation for Business, which demonstrates
your professional skill to your bank manager, business associates and customers.
For full details of this course and the others on offer visit http://www.homeworkinguk.com/vision.htm
Free Cash - Part 1
I came across this one by chance whilst researching for a new site I'm preparing. Worldwinner is an online gaming site whereby you pit your skills against other players for cash. Like many sites they offer you a bonus when you sign up, but unusually they allow you to play with the bonus money first and then don't put any restrictions on withdrawals, and don't charge any fees. This means that you can compete with the money they put into your account and then withdraw any winnings together with your original untouched deposit. The absolute worse case scenario is that you'll lose every game you play and withdraw your original deposit, leaving you with what you started with, but as you're competing against just 1 or 2 people in the game of your choice and can have
unlimited practice games, you'd have to be pretty unlucky for that to happen.
In my case I deposited $10, and they deposited a further $10 from a special promotion (it is usually $5) and when I received e-mails confirming the result of games I'd played, there was a link to claim a further $5. After playing a few games, I was
able to withdraw $26 which was back in my paypal account within a few days.
To be completely risk free, you will need a paypal account. You can pay by credit card but bank charges and exchange rates may result in a loss whereas all paypal charges are absorbed by WorldWinner. Additionally, if you think you might be tempted to keep playing after you've spent your bonus money, don't sign up as a cash member, but if you've got sufficient discipline to walk away, this has to be a no lose situation. To find out more, visit the site
at http://www.homeworkinguk.com/worldwinner.htm and do let me know how you get on.
Free Cash - Part 2
Not quite so lucrative but quiz site ItPaysToLearn are on a big recruitment drive
and will pay you $0.25 into your paypal account within 24 hours just for joining
up and confirming your paypal account. This does involve making a 1 cent transaction
but I've been with this site for years and have never had any problems receiving
payment, so confirming your details is completely safe. Not only that but tell
your friends/family etc and if they've got a paypal account they'll get $0.25
and so will you for introducing them. You'll find the site at
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/iptl.htm
and if you haven't yet got a paypal account just go to
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/paypal.htm
Choose the personal account option if you won't be using it to accept credit card
payments from others. This ensures you won't pay fees for any money you
receive from anyone else.
Free Business Cards, Address Labels, Fridge Magnets etc.
I may in the past have mentioned Vista Print, the company I use for my business cards. I originally came across the company as they were offering free business cards and was so impressed I've kept using them. Well now for this month only they decided they can do better than offer you 250 free business cards. Claim your free cards before the end of the month and you can also choose from personalised magnets, return address labels, Christmas cards and invitations. All you pay is postage. For more information, including
the wide range of templates go to http://www.homeworkinguk.com/vista.htm
