NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES
JANUARY 2004
1. News
Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter,
the monthly publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways
of earning money from home.I trust you are refreshed after the Christmas break and ready for the year ahead.
Little to report in the way of news as things are only just starting to get
going again after the break. Next month I hope to be able to report on the successful
launch of CoffeeFirst. The interest has been amazing. With 377 in my own downline,
of which only 3 can be in the first row of the matrix, and two or three signing up
every day, this is one that could be huge. I've even managed to get 3 signed up for all of the referrals who asked for help getting started. If you haven't yet checked
it out, take a look at http://www.coffeefirst.com/coffee/members/t.php?rid=5384
If you feel you're paying the price for your overspending during the holiday
period, why not take a look at my new site http://www.ukmoneysavers.com which
sets out dozens of ways to cut your spending without cutting corners.
It's still in the early stages but I'm sure you'll find something useful there.
Promosquad
As many of you like completing surveys, here's a slight twist for you. If you like listening to music from unknown artists, you might like to visit Promosquad. With Promosquad you get points by giving your opinion on new songs in the jukebox and popular artists , participating in polls, find a hot new band…they all get you certain amounts of points that you can then cash in for prizes, from a wide selection shown on the site!
Know an unsigned band? You could earn extra points or even a $1000 finders fee.
With 5 points for each song review or poll opinion, bonus points for rating
as few as 20 songs a week, and prizes starting at just 250 points, you
can easily qualify for a prize or two every month, or save your points
for such gifts as Cds, DVDs, digital cameras and computer hardware.
Unusually there are no postage charges for sending these gifts worldwide. I just put in
a claim for my first award and was amazed at how quickly it arrived from America.
Every day they also award prizes of cash, music and DVD's to randomly
selected winners, chosen from everyone rating a song that day. This month
they're also giving away two Apple iPods.

Make It Happen
One frequent question I'm asked is about the nuts and bolts of running
a business - choosing and setting up a business, finding customers,
promotion and of course legal aspects like tax, national insurance,
data protection and VAT. This month, I've been reading a 6 part British course
which explains all these matters in a simple, easy to understand way and is
written by UK-based mail order professionals who
have been operating full-time successful home based businesses for many years.
In addition, the course comes with resell rights, so that you can earn while
you're learning. Usually £10 per month, I'm able to offer part one at half price
to all readers of this newsletter until the end of January. Naturally,
there is the usual money-back guarantee. Just return it in good condition
within 30 days for a refund if you're not happy. Full details and application
form available from http://www.homeworkinguk.com/mih.pdf
or e-mail for a copy.

Tips to a part-time Career in Freelance Writing
© Mangla Sachdev 2003
In today’s penny-pinching and high debt society everyone could use some extra cash. Whether you have five minutes or five hours to spare, the passion to write can bring in extra income, whether you’re a stay-at-home mum or a work-from-home parent.
“You don’t have to be born a literary genius, or have a degree in English,” says Mangla Sachdev, publisher of Writing4Money. "To become a successful writer, you just have to be able to jot down your thoughts and enjoy doing so. The rest of it can be learned.”
Richard Chennells, 36, a parent of two toddlers, and a successful full-time freelance writer for several magazines, says the work has always appealed to him because it can be done in his own time. "Time became such a precious commodity in my life--I was always running to and from work and social obligations," he says. "I thought that if I just had a notebook, I could be watching the kids play and still earn an income, so my wife didn’t have to work so hard."
Even setting aside just one hour per day to pursue a freelance writing career part-time can be highly profitable. Think about it: Writing one article or short story per week with an average sale of £100 can equal £5200 of extra income at the end of the year!
If you think you can’t be a freelance writer in this economic climate, think again. A tough economy can actually benefit freelancers. As publishers are downsizing staff, the demand for good freelancers is at it’s highest. Even businesses seek to save money by outsourcing work.
Writing a best-seller novel might not appeal to you or even interest you, but writing about parenting topics, humour, short stories, poetry or even copywriting can still earn you a substantial amount of money when you want it.
Here are some tips about making it in the freelance writing arena:
Write about your passion. When you have a hobby you tend to know much more about that topic than most people, and writing about it becomes fun and exciting especially knowing that you can profit from your passion.
Read the magazine or newspaper you’re trying to write for before writing a word. Most people have this great idea for an article and spend hours writing it all and perfecting it and then send it to a magazine they think would love it. But that just ends up being rejected.
Each publication has a distinctive style and only by reading them from a writer’s perspective will you know that an article about the benefits of home schooling wouldn’t be accepted by Cosmopolitan or even by Baby & You, because the latter magazine covers only newborns to the first year.
What do people comment on that you do better than anyone else or better than most people? Certain things like being able to throw a great children’s party or if you’ve found a way to control the temper of a child at supermarket queues might not be given a second thought, but most parents will want to know how you do it. So, if you’ve found a way to make your life easier or have had a few comments on how well you do … (fill in the blank), that is something that would make a great article.
With the Internet, there is now a much bigger market for anything that you write. Have you ever wondered how magazines come up with an average of 20 articles each and every month? There are thousands of magazines in the UK alone and millions of online magazines all hungry for new articles, short stories, poetry and anything else that you want to write about. So whether it’s greeting cards, screenplays, newspaper journalism, writing for TV, writing for children, poetry, short stories, articles, jokes or tips, there’s someone willing to pay you for anything that interests you.
Focus on a niche. If your interests are cats, there are many publications as well as angles you can take that will increase the chances of publication and increase the amount you earn from each of your ideas. If you write about cats, don’t just focus on cat or pet magazines. It might be tougher to get into unless you’re an expert. But don’t let that stop you. Also, you can’t possibly write everything there is to know about a topic. You have to find an angle. As an example, how about a parent’s magazine and an article like “How the Family Cat Can Help Teach Your Child About Responsibility.” Get the idea?
Start small but start everyday. You don’t have to change your lifestyle to fit in freelance writing. START AS A 5-MINUTE WRITER That's all you need to begin writing. You don't have to set aside a morning, a day or even a weekend to write.
How long does it take for your e-mails to finish downloading? There's your 5-minute writing time. Your casserole takes how many minutes to simmer? There's your 5-minute writing time.
I'm certain you can think of other situations in your life where you can snatch those 5 minutes. Give yourself time to be comfortable and used to this new habit. Allow those 5 minutes of writing time to blend in with your every day life. Soon you'll be writing beyond your 5-minute writing time, and you won't even notice your 5 minutes are up!
Whether you’re looking for a few extra hundreds a month or a week, freelance writing can help you.
And the child of a writer learns more than just reading and writing; that child is learning the importance of passionate work, too. My nephew already has his own keyboard, which he bangs at the computer table while I'm typing at my own. I can't wait to read his first short story.
If I gave you £1.00 for every word you wrote, how much would you write?
Writing4Money will show you how you can write from your home and get paid for it. I should know it’s possible. In a matter of one hour I can put together a short article and submit it to a publication and get paid over £100.
You don’t need to be a literary genius to earn a serious income writing and selling your poems, articles, short stories and other types of writing. There is someone willing to pay you for almost any subject that interests you.
