NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES
JANUARY 2005
1. News
Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter, the monthly
publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways of earning money
from home.
Reminder
Just a quick reminder that if you haven't already done so, you need to visit
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/tinc?key=u5rYyU0U&RegistrationFormID=15856
to sign up again to continue receiving this newsletter from next month.
Get paid to surf
Whilst the days of earning hundreds of pounds just by adding a toolbar to your
computer are long gone, there has recently been a bit of a revival on sites paying
you to visit the sites of other members. In most cases payment is rarely more than
a few cents and credits to promote other online programs, and is pretty mindless,
just waiting for a timer to countdown, but a new breed is emerging that whilst
still not going to make you rich, has injected an element of fun. These new sites
offer you the chance to search a mine or galaxy for cash and gold etc. between site
visits so in addition to promoting a site of your own or other programs you've joined,
there's a good chance of getting frequent small payouts. Dig For Gold for example
has a payment threshold of just 250 flakes of gold which is easily reached in a
month, and Galactic Gold and Treasure Surfers have frequent larger finds to make
their thresholds easy to reach in just a few months. If you think you can get a
few referrals take a look at Traffic Battle which offers 500 website
credits AND 10 cents when someone in your down line (1st Level) surfs 100 pages.
You'll find more details of these sites at http://www.homeworkinguk.com/surfing.htm
Scams
Whilst the holiday season always brings with it a rush of junk e-mails complete
with viruses and scams from students with too much free time, the tragic events
in Asia brought with it many more. Scammers posing as tsunami victims or their
relatives are already using many different methods to get people to give them money
and to download viruses and trojans. These mainly fall into 4 categories:
- 1. Phishing scams where fraudulent websites are set up pretending to be legitimate tsunami relief organizations. Not only do these sites request charitable donations which go into the pockets of the scammers, but are very likely to also steal financial information for identity theft as well. If you want to make a donation online, use http://www.dec.org.uk the website of the Disasters Emergency Committee which was set up as a "one stop shop" by all the main charities including Oxfam, Save The Children and the Red Cross.
- 2. Variants of the Nigerian fee scam for retrieving large amounts of money supposedly tied up in areas devastated by the tsunami disaster.
- 3. Viruses and trojans where the e-mail includes what are claimed to be photos of disaster areas or individual survivors, but these attachments actually contain computer viruses.
- 4. You may also receive emails offering, for a fee, to locate people who may be disaster victims.
For more information on the latest scams, an excellent site set up by the South
African police force, is http://www.419legal.org They collect information on
fraudsters, their methods, their victims and the tools they use. Much of this
information is supplied by a group of informers whose information has helped to
get many fake websites taken down and save people from falling victim to these
scams.
2. Featured Business Resource
First Website Builder
Long standing subscribers to this website will be well aware of my enthusiasm for
creating your own website rather than simply signing up and promoting someone else's
replica site and may recall my praise for an excellent collection of eBooks entitled
"First Website Builder". Comprising of 3 books the first book written by a
complete beginner who built her own Great Website in a few days without
spending a single penny, is a detailed account of how she did it. The other
books are written by tutorial writers who are not only experts in their own
field but are also experts at writing in plain English for even the most
inexperienced to
follow, and cover copywriting, automation, backing up and publishing.
Now though, the people behind this package have decided it can be improved upon
and have expanded the pack to include a 24 part HTML Course, a book of insider tips
and professional tricks of the Web Site Designer's trade and such website building
tools as a gizmo wizard which enables you to add special effects in just a few clicks,
a mini site wizard for creating a no-frills mini site in minutes and
a website encryption wizard which allows you to encrypt everything on your new
Website to stop content thieves and spammers.
This is without doubt one of the best web building packages around, particularly
for beginners and the addition of the software, which alone is worth well in excess
of the cost of the whole First Website Builder, makes this an essential purchase.
Of course, if you find you disagree, you've got 12 months in which to claim your
money back under the guarantee - no-strings attached.

3. Featured Business Opportunity
Hatched And Matched
if you're fed up being offered the same old opportunities all the time then you
might be interested in a brand new venture from Derek Chambers of
http://www.1stchoicewebhost.co.uk/.
He's got together with Dave Bromley of the Business Opportunity Bureau to bring
to the UK an idea that's doing well in
America that has yet to catch on here, but for which demand could be huge.
Dave discovered that in the USA both wedding and Birth announcement sites are becoming very popular. The wedding sites include pictures of the Happy Couple, the Church they were due to be married in together with details of the major guests, Matron of Honour, Best Man and Bridesmaids as well as directions to the church. The sites also contain links to local hotels and the stores holding the couples wedding gift list. Baby birth announcement sites not only allow new parents to spread the good news in word and pictures but is also an ideal way to post details, maps and other important information regarding the baby shower, christening, and other events.
They will be issuing a maximum of 200 Licences for £39.95 each. Each licensee is entitled to have as many Wedding and Birth Announcement Sites created and Hosted by 1st ChoiceWeb Host. You will also receive a Licensees CD containing copies of the templates, Business Plan Manual and Birth and Wedding Information Forms. Finally you will also get 3 Template CDs, which you can show to
prospective customers and access to the Hatched & Matched Phone Help Line.
You'll find full details of this new opportunity, and see samples of the
announcement sites at http://www.1stchoicewebhost.co.uk/wedding/newop.htm
4. Featured Freebies
Free Photos
This offer is especially for anyone who got a digital camera or mobile phone with
built-in camera for Christmas, but applies equally to anyone who takes digital
photos or gets their film developed onto CD-Rom - 20 free prints on Kodak paper
(and if that's not enough they'll give you 10 more for everyone you introduce).
Snapfish have made it really easy to get prints of photos you've taken, or
even those that have been e-mailed to you. You can either send them by e-mail
direct from your computer or mobile phone, or upload them using a free upload tool,
or individually without needing to download anything first. Not only can you get
prints of your photos but they also offer the chance to put your photos on cards,
mugs, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mousemats, coasters, placemats and posters. Visit
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/snapfish.htm to claim your free prints, and don't worry about getting clobbered by postage.
I've just claimed my 20 free prints and postage was just 90p.
I hope you've found something of interest this month. I'll speak to you again
next month (if you've remembered to renew your
subscription).
