NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES
FEBRUARY 2003
1. News
Happy New Year and Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter,
the monthly publication which will give you all the latest news from the UK on ways
of earning money from home.
First of all, apologies for the delay in the issue of this month's newsletter.
For those of you who've requested more details, Daniel Sam was born 10 days
early, weighing 5 pounds 12 ounces after 14 hours of labour and an emergency
caesarean. Things are beginning to get back to normal, his big brother absolutely
adores him and if you're waiting for a reply to anything I hope to be up
straight with correspondence in a week or so.

Cracking down on scams
Here's another reminder that envelope stuffing scams are still bringing in thousands
of pounds from desperate homeworkers, but that the authorities are finally
beginning to take it seriously. The following article appeared in a national
newspaper last week:
A husband and wife faced jail last night for ripping off 16,000 people in a
work-from-home scam.
Crooked Richard Alderson, 32, and wife Alison, 35, lured victims with adverts
promising cash for filling envelopes.
The pair raked in £450,000 by charging up to £35 a time for dud start-up kits.
The packs asked people to send off MORE money — or told them to advertise in
newsagents’ windows for others to sign up to the scheme.
Those who complained had to ring a premium rate phoneline — which netted
the couple ANOTHER £50,000. Many victims were elderly or single mothers desperate
to earn extra cash.
The con funded a lavish lifestyle for the couple, who thought nothing of
spending £30,000 a month. They bought a Porsche and jetted on luxury holidays with
their two children.
A neighbour in Chester-le-Street, Co Durham, said: “We thought they’d won the pools.”
The couple admitted plotting to defraud the public. A judge at Teesside Crown Court
adjourned sentencing — and warned they faced jail.
2. Featured Publication
Angie Wilkes has produced a free newsletter called THINK SUCCESS, which is
aimed at people working from home in the UK, and covers Sales and Marketing, Personal Growth, Network Marketing, Time and
Stress Management. To subscribe, simply contact Angie on angiewilkes@telco4u.net
3. Featured Biz opp
The Instant Computer Consultant Toolkit
One of the most common requests I receive is a vague request from people wanting
to earn from home using their computer but don't have any experience or qualifications.
I was really pleased then to come across The Instant Computer Consultant
Toolkit which has been developed by British consultant Jon Lawrance to help
others start their own computer consultancy without any previous experience.
He started his own consultancy from scratch and had no money, no contacts,
no computer consultancy experience, and worse of all, was heavily in debt.
Nowadays - after 5 years experience - he has contracts that pay over $200
per hour so he knows what he is talking about. He has distilled his years of
wisdom into a how-to manual packed to the brim with trade secrets, inside
information and know-how. But you don't need to take my word for it. Not
only does he offer a no strings money back guarantee on the guide but he
also offers a free newsletter with regular tips, strategies as well as
extracts from the manual, so you can read his advice to help you decide
whether he knows his stuff. Visit his site at
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/consultant.htm
where you can learn more about how to start your own successful computer
consultancy and to sign up for the free newsletter.
4. Featured Freebies
This month's first freebie is aimed particularly at everyone running a mail
order business or any other where postal costs comprise a large part of the
business expenses.
Pitney Bowes are the world’s leading provider of mail and document
management solutions and have recently launched into the SOHO market with
PersonalPost™, a digital franking machine designed specifically for small
businesses and home workers. Pitney Bowes are acquiring 15,000 new users
per year and currently 30,000 small businesses in the UK benefit from the
convenience, cost and time saved by PersonalPost™. For a short time they are
offering a 30 Day Free Trial with £20 Free Postage to use during the trial and
a Free Company Logo so users can advertise on every piece of mail they send.
For further details visit http://www.homeworkinguk.com/postage.htm
Our second freebie is a chance to save a fortune on your online purchases with
free membership of an online shopping channel. In the past I've mentioned
one advantage of having your own website is that you can sign up for affiliate
programs to earn commission on your own purchases. However not everybody wants
to create their own website, and not all affiliate programs will suit the theme
of your site making it hard to get accepted, but now there is a way around this.
Shoppin.net have signed up to all these programs on your behalf and refund
your commission to you on all the purchases you make from a huge range of
online shops. When I last looked there were 117 UK shops included in the
scheme giving you the chance to earn rebates of up to 20% on your purchases
or even £30 just for applying for a new credit card. I've just made £21.39
simply by buying my new laptop through a link on the site. To join, or simply
get further details visit http://www.homeworkinguk.com/shoppin.htm
I hope you've found something of interest this month. Speak to you again next month.
