NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES
MARCH 2004
1. News
Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter,
the monthly publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways
of earning money from home.
Recruitment Campaign for Examiners and Markers
Are you currently teaching or have recently retired from teaching? If so, you may be
interested to know that QCA, AQA, Edexcel and OCR have joined together in order
to encourage new people to become examiners and markers. The new web site allows
people to register their interest and apply online.
Pay levels depend upon the number of papers or amount of coursework you agree to
mark or moderate and the level and length of the work you are marking. Generally,
the higher the level and longer the paper, the more complex and time-consuming
it will be to mark. There is a fee per paper and that fee reflects the time and
expertise needed to mark it. There is also a fee that covers preparation for
and attendance at the standardisation meeting. More details at
http://www.examinerrecruitment.org .
E-mail Campaign
How would you like to earn a free Portable DVD player, portable MP3 player, digital
camera or colour PDA, just for agreeing to add your e-mail to marketing lists and
telling your friends about it?
ConsumerBase, a large US marketing company have just launched in the UK and
are looking to build a large database as quickly as possible. To do this they'll
reward you for helping them, and to make it easier they even reward you for all
the introductions from those you refer. You get 1 point for each registration
completed and only need 95 points, which might sound a lot until you realise
that if you tell 10 friends, work mates or family members and they find 10
each then you've hit the target.
As the object of this campaign is to promote e-mail marketing you can only
join by invitation so send me an e-mail to
for an invitation. If you're worried you're likely to get loads of marketing
e-mails, you may prefer to create a separate e-mail address purely for this
offer. One free service I'd recommend is from http://www.fastmail.fm .
Just remember to tell me in your e-mail which address you want me to use,
if not the one you use to contact me.
For further details about this promotion you can read their Press release at
http://www.consumerbase.com/investor_relations/pressreleases/press_02.15.04.html
Note this offer is only open until 27 April.
Spotting Ideas
Springwise scans the globe looking for brilliant new business-to-consumer ideas,
concepts, innovations and ventures that they think could work in the UK and other
countries. They focus on ideas that have proven themselves in local or regional
markets, and are ready for expansion, partnership, franchising or copying and
present these bright new ideas in free, monthly newsletters.
More than 1000 'idea spotters' in 60+ countries around the world already contribute
to Springwise's content services, but they are always looking for more input.
The key requirement is a healthy dose of curiosity and idea spotters get
compensated per submission, no strings attached.
If you'd like to apply to be an idea spotter or subscribe to the free newsletter
you can sign up online at http://www.springwise.com.
Internet Fraud
Following on from last month's report, I've tracked down further useful U.S. sites:
NASAA FRAUD CENTER (North American Securities Administrators Association ) have
identified the Top 10 scams, schemes and scandals investors are likely to face
in 2004. Visit their site at http://www.nasaa.org/nasaa/news&pa/Fraud_Center.asp
where you'll also find details of How to Spot a Con Artist, How to Avoid Becoming a Victim and even a Fraud awareness quiz.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has a very good page on
"Internet Fraud: How to Avoid Internet Investment Scams" at:
http://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/cyberfraud.htm
Reading the Alerts at http://www.nasd.com/Investor/Alerts/ will also help to give
you the information about protecting your money and avoiding scams and other
investing problems.
2. Featured Business Opportunity
Regular visitors to the site will probably be aware that the best way to earn from
home is to offer something that isn't available from a thousand different sources
- ie to offer your own product or service, and to automate as much as
possible allowing you to use your time more productively. This is one of the
major benefits of the internet; with the right product, once you've set up
a website you really can run a profitable business on a few hours a day.
Of course, this sounds great in theory but in practice where do you begin? The
vast majority of information online is aimed at a U.S. market and every purchase
just seems to point you in the direction of yet one more "must have" product.
Which is why this month I'm recommending the newly updated Web Profits Home
Study Course. This 6 part CD-Rom course was written specifically for the UK market
and not only teaches you everything you need to know to set up and run a profitable
online business it also includes all the software tools you'll need so you don't
need to keep laying out for extras, or spending hours downloading software.
The course provides you with tactics, information and tools and covers just about
everything you'll need to know to set up a successful on-line information publishing
business, starting from scratch for an absolutely minimal outlay. You even get
free ongoing support and advice via the 24 hour helpline, whenever you need it.
By following the simple procedures described in the course you will soon be able
to make some money on the Internet selling your own unique products but to get you
started they have now included in the package a free bonus each month of a high
quality eBook or collection of downloadable products, complete with full
resale rights and a ready-made sales web site for each one. These bonuses alone
are worth well in excess of £100. With Part 1 of the course, for example,
you get a copy of "Web Marketing Explained" in which 40 successful Internet
Marketers explain step-by-step how they make money on line.
Whilst the course relates specifically to information products, most of the
information is relevant to any business. You'll find further details at
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/wpsite1 .
Naturally you get a no strings 30 day money back guarantee with the first part
of the course.

5. Featured Article
Where should I start?
by Chuck McCullough
---------------------
I recently surveyed my newsletter subscribers to get some information on what areas they need the most help with.
An interesting bit of information came out of the survey:
A LARGE number of people online are trying to figure out where to start, or aren't sure how to go about it.
My answer for this problem is simply:
Get started!
Just get started. Find a subject that you enjoy, and that you are willing to spend time learning more about, and start creating your website.
Use the free hosting services, put up a bunch of banners, DON'T get your own domain name, make all the mistakes you possibly can!
Why would I give you such terrible advice?
Because this is how you learn! This is how you learn the basics of creating a web page, uploading to someone else's server, finding your site on the Internet, and then trying to figure out how to get other people to find your site.
Everything you read (I'm guilty of this too!) tells you that you must have your own domain name before you even start, you must have a ton of content ready to put on your website to keep people coming back, your website must be on a profitable subject that will surely make you a ton of money, you must drive traffic to your website, etc., etc.!
The problem is that you spend all of your time trying to figure out what your website is going to be about, and trying to find a cool domain name for it, finding the perfect website hosting company that will keep your site up 24 hours a day, finding the most profitable topic...
But you never get started!
Get started today... right now... not later... now.
Go and create an account on a free hosting company, figure out how to create a web page, then upload it using the instructions that are given to you by the hosting company.
Don't know how to create a web page? Go to your favorite search engine and search for "HTML tutorial" and then read until you've learned what you need to know to create a simple page that says:
"This is my new website and I'm proud of it!"
Join an affiliate program... it doesn't matter which one, just figure out how to join one and join it.
Go back and modify your web page with the information they gave you when you signed up for the affiliate program.
Once you have done this, open your browser and try to find your new website.
Can you find it? If not, figure out why. Read the help section of your website host.
Once you find your website, go back and change the font on your page, bold some words, add a banner promoting the affiliate program you joined.
Move the banner to the bottom of the page instead of the top. Just make changes to try and make it look better.
Add more content. What content? It doesn't matter, just talk about your favorite subject for a while: Fishing, skateboarding, racing cars, comic books, whatever.
After you have done this, figure out how to add Meta tags to your website with keywords and a description of what it is about.
When you have done this, go to every search engine you can possibly find and figure out what you have to do to submit your new web page.
Did you do this yet?
If so, you are now on your way to making money on the Internet.
Did I just tell you that your new web page is going to make you money?
Nope. The exercise that I had you follow took you from start to finish of creating and promoting a web page.
I intentionally left out the little details because THAT is what is going to get you on your way to making money online.
Having to go and figure out how to do each of those steps is where you will start to build your foundation for future wealth making.
The only way you are going to get the chance to do this is to get started right now... then as you learn more, you will start to figure out what it takes to earn money online.
