NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES
APRIL 2004
1. News
Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter,
the monthly publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways
of earning money from home.
Print Your Own Stamps
If you're running any sort of business from home, you'll know how inconvenient and
time consuming it can be making sure you've always got a supply of stamps for any
mail you need to send, and keeping track of your spending. Whilst you've always
had the option of using a franking machine, the monthly hire charges can make
this more suitable for larger businesses, so I was pleased to read this month
about the new service from the Post Office, "SmartStamp", which enables you
to print stamps straight onto envelopes or labels from your PC using your
existing printer. You don't need any additional hardware and can download
the software or request a CD. Like franking, you can add a logo or slogan,
and can obtain a refund for error stamps. At just £4.99 a month or £49.99 a year,
plus postage costs, this seems a tiny price to pay to cut out post office
queues and achieve a professional appearance to your mail. You'll
find full details at http://www.royalmail.com
Alternatively, you can simply buy books of stamps from the same site, with
free delivery. And don't forget that postal rates went up this week, so make
sure you're using sufficient postage on your mailings. Once again, rates are
available from http://www.royalmail.com
Case Studies
For anyone still trying to decide what business to set up, or even whether they
really can make money online, nothing gets a point across better than a personal
story told by someone who has taken the plunge and created a successful online
business, often with no previous experience. The case studies on
http://case-studies.sitesell.com/websuccessstory.html
are detailed accounts of individual experiences, each in their own words, and
are incredibly inspirational. You really do come away believing you too can do it.
2. Featured Resources
Protecting Your Computer
With countless new viruses and virus strains appearing every week, it's never been
more important to make sure you're doing all you can to protect your computer,
especially if you rely on it for work. As most of these viruses exploit weakness in
Windows operating systems it is vital to keep up to date with updates issued by
Microsoft, but unless you have broadband connection this can be time consuming
and expensive. This month then there's good news from Microsoft - you can now
order the Windows® Security Update CD free of charge from
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/security/protect/alert.mspx.
The CD includes Microsoft critical updates released up until October 2003 and
information to help you protect your PC. In addition, you will receive free trial
firewall and virus protection software.
The Windows Security Update CD is available for Windows XP, Windows Me,
Windows 2000, Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and only customers
with addresses in the United Kingdom will be able to order the CD from this site.
Customers from the Republic of Ireland should call +44 (0) 870 60 10 100 or their
local Microsoft contact centre to order the CD.
Once you have installed the CD you will need to run Windows Update to identify
any updates issued after October 2003 that you may need to protect your machine.
Of course, there's more to protecting your computer than keeping Windows up to
date, but despite all the publicity about recent damage from viruses, the vast
majority of people still don't do it That's because installing security and safety
precautions appears to be so costly, technical and intimidating. Now, at last you
can protect your PC and Personal Information without any technical knowledge and
without spending a fortune doing it thanks to a new product from The Newbie Club,
who've built up an excellent reputation for explaining everything PC in plain,
easy to understand language.
The 'PC & Internet Security Kit' contains an in-depth security manual
'PC Security Secrets Revealed' by Alex Poole, together with 4 Security Software
Packages by Newbie Club Founder Joe Robson, and covers such topics as:
- The differences between viruses, worms, trojan horses, spyware, adware, diallers and scumware.
- The methods by which these nasties can get onto your PC.
- Steps to prevent them getting onto your PC.
- What a Virus Scanner actually does (and what it doesn't do.)
- 2 places to download a completely free Virus Scanner. (This could save you £30+)
- What a Firewall does.
- 2 places to download completely free Firewall software. (Saving: £20+)
- The differences between a Personal Firewall and a Hardware Firewall.
- 2 places you can do a quick, free, online virus scan. (Scan a PC for viruses without even installing any software!)
- How to test that your Virus Scanner and firewall actually work. (Hard to believe, but almost nobody ever does this!)
- 2 places to download completely Free Spyware removal software. (Saving: £20+)
- How to build a home network with a Hardware Firewall for less than £70. (You do NOT have to do this, but if you do you'll have the same state-of-the-art protection that many big companies use.)
- Where to download the free software to build your Hardware Firewall. (Commercial software that does the same thing can run to over £600!)
- 2 places you can download completely free popup stoppers. (You could easily spend £15 or more on a popup stopper alone!)
Order now at http://newbieclub.com/security/?help_for_beginners
Naturally there is a 12 Months Unconditional No-Quibble Guarantee.
Alternatively, if you're just looking for new Antivirus software, Savapoint are
offering Norton Antivirus 2004 for just £19.95 (RRP £34.99). Visit them at
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/norton.htm They also have a huge range of free software, Nokia accessories, Cds and DVD's, where you just pay for postage.

3. Featured Opportunity
This month I've got something rather different in that it's not a business
opportunity but a chance to be involved in the creation of a brand new children's
TV series. Please note that I am not a qualified financial advisor and cannot make
any formal recommendations but as I frequently get requests for information about
this sort of opportunity, thought it would be of interest to many of you, especially
as you can become involved for as little as £180. For anyone interested in
investment recommendations, one of our subscribers is alternative investments
expert Iain Maitland who writes for the web site www.uk-analyst.com . Register free with this site and you'll get daily market reports and tips by e-mail.
Bagees is a unique new pre-school children’s television series about the secret life of some very special bags, The Bagees, which come to life when no-one is looking. Children’s television and Merchandising products is an extremely lucrative market, and early signs are that this could be the next big thing. Just think how much you could have earned by investing early with Teletubbies or Bob the Builder for example.
Bagees has already been shown in several international markets and has acquired over 200 buyers with a strong interest in Bagees. The first episode, a Christmas special called ‘Christmas Lost & Found’ has already been completed, and a final pilot and forth coming series are to be produced by World renowned animation studio Cosgrove Hall, hence the need for additional funding.
All members receive FREE promotional material, including videos, CD-ROMS, brochures and application forms to help promote Bagees.
and regular newsletters updating you on the progress of Bagees and any new character designs and competitions that are running.
If you'd like further information, http://www.bagees.co.uk has full details including video footage from the Christmas special and BBC and ITV news reports together with an application form. As an incentive to publicise Bagees, a commission is paid on all introductions, so it would be appreciated if you could put my name, Lynne O'Connor and reference number, B512, in the referral box.
4. Featured Freebie
Free Game Download
Without question, my current favourite games site is RealArcade which lets you try
out all 200+ games on the site by offering free 60 minute trials on each of them.
Once you find a game you want to keep you simply pay to unlock the game. Usually
$20 a time, RealArcade have now introduced GamePass which entitles you to one
game per month and $5 off all others for just $6.95 (that's less than £4) a month.
Gamepass comes with a free trial which means you get your first month free, so
your first game costs nothing, and you're under no obligation to continue and
can cancel at any time. Although, if you're anything like me, the thought of a
new game every month for just £4 is too good to turn down. For full details go
to http://www.homeworkinguk.com/gamepass.htm
5. Featured Article
A little light-hearted food for thought this month.
You Might Be Addicted To Internet Marketing If...
(c) 2003 by Larry Dotson -
You might be addicted to Internet marketing if...
Your idea of a vacation is to visit an exotic location for an Internet marketing seminar.
You start calling TV Dinners - PC Dinners.
You worry that you might get a tumor from being in front of the computer too long.
Your significant other asks you to get off the computer and you tell them
two more minutes, but they know that means two more hours.
You take your laptop to the bathroom instead of a newspaper or magazine.
You have told someone, "I have a good feeling about this one."
You think a night out on the town is drinking a beer while hanging out in an Internet marketing forum.
Your mouse has more miles on it than your car.
You get frustrated in waiting rooms because they don't have any business-related magazines to read.
You feel you need to lose a few pounds and you start exercising in front of your computer…while sitting down.
