Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter,
the monthly publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways
of earning money from home.
Scams
This month I had intended to provide general advice on e-mail processing jobs you may see advertised, and the consequences of requesting information from companies claiming to offer homework but this week I've been literally swamped with reports about one particular company so all other scam advice is held over to next month. I am however always available to answer queries by e-mail on any offers you come across.
The company in question is Transcribe Recruitment UK, who operate through the website www.transcribejobs.co.uk. They have been telephoning people claiming that they applied for home based work with them although not one of the people who've contacted me remembers doing this. The job offered was usually data entry for a medical company, paid £12/13 per hour but required the purchase of £99 software from another company VSysTek. Now not only does the software not work but apparently there is no work available either, other than selling the software packages.
When I first heard this story I posted the details on our scams page
and within a couple of days had not only received about a dozen further
stories, each with a twist (technical support bills of £200, reformatting
hard disks to repair the damage, spyware within the software etc. etc)
but I'd also received lengthy and I might add unconvincing
(but make up your own mind) explanations from the companies involved.
I could go on all week about this but instead, I've printed all
messages on a new page at http://www.homeworkinguk.com/transcribe.htm
and would urge everyone to read it. Although Transcribe tell me
they've had to cease trading following the acknowledged problems
with the software, the stories I'm getting suggest they are
continuing to recruit.
If you do receive a phone call, or indeed any other communication, from any company offering you work but requiring you to purchase software or anything else to carry out the work, it is extremely likely that what is on offer is actually a commission program for the software, despite any verbal claims. Before committing yourself get details in writing of exactly what is involved and READ IT carefully. Don't take the words at face value, seeing what you want to see. Remember I'm always happy to look at any offers received.
If like many others you're wondering why these people can't be stopped,
I came across a wonderful article from Tony Hetherington of the Mail
on Sunday which explains it perfectly. Basically the laws are in
place but none of the official bodies have the personnel or
inclination to follow it through. You can read the full piece at
http://www.thisismoney.com/20030413/si61726_s.html
but here's a taste:
In answer to the question "You often report that companies you've named have been closed by the Department of Trade & Industry. But does anybody go to jail? " Tony writes:
The Office of Fair Trading is narcoleptic. It would give Mickey Mouse a licence as a credit adviser, and its much-heralded Stop Now orders ('Halt rogue traders in 14 days!') take so long to arrive that they make the Hundred Years War seem like a brief skirmish. ...
....The Financial Services Authority employs lions led by donkeys. ...The Home Office is barely aware it has any legal responsibility for acting against scams such as chain letters that count as unlicensed lotteries. It is a dead duck. ...
Take the time to read the whole article.
And just one final question on the subject of scams. Am I the only person to be seeing a sudden increase in the "REQUEST FOR URGENT ASSISTANCE" (note everything is in capital letters!) e-mails from Nigeria etc? I'm now getting at least 20 a day asking me to help smuggle $X million from some African or Arabic country. If you don't know about these scams and are ever tempted to respond, let me know and I'll explain in more detail.
Site Reviewers Required
I've found a new site that is looking for site reporters to review websites and complete questionnaires related to the ease of use, performance, etc. of those sites. In return, you will earn commission for each completed questionnaire. Their commission rates vary depending on how many reviews you complete with the first 9 reviews paying £1.85 each, rising to £2.10 for the next 20 and £2.75 thereafter. BUT as the site is so new they are currently running unpaid trials to test the system. Whilst you may not be impressed by unpaid assignments, the company will reward everyone who participates at this stage by offering higher pay rates on subsequent reviews.
Anyone who completes between 1 and 3 unpaid assignments will start at £2.20 per assignment when the trials are over, and anyone completing 4 or more assignments now will start at £2.40 per assignment. In addition, if you submit particularly high quality assignments you may be offered promotion to a Premium Reporter with the chance to complete more detailed surveys for £3.50 or more.
The site pays out when your account reaches £10 - currently only available in vouchers but cash may be available at a later date.
If you're interested, just visit http://www.site-reporter.com/ for full details and to register.

How To Buy Cheap DVDS And Games Direct From The Secret UK Wholesalers
Whatever business idea you have in mind, you can be sure that there are
dozens of "how to" guides and directories around, but the biggest
problem is that you know they are purely theory and that the author
has never tried out any of the advice given. I was really pleased
then to come across this new guide to sourcing DVDs and video games,
written by somebody who actually makes his money this way. Not only
does this guide provide you with details of suppliers to use, but
Mark Eastwood also explains how he got started and all the tricks of
the trade you'll need. Take a look at the items he's selling on eBay
to give you an idea of what's possible. At just £9.99 you'll soon
realise that you'll be in profit even if you only want to buy a few
items for your own use. Full details are available from
http://www.homeworkinguk.com/dvdguide.htm
3. Featured Business Opportunity
Oriflame
Oriflame was started over 35 years ago in Sweden and has grown into a household name for high quality, affordable natural skincare and cosmetics across Europe and is now in over 60 countries worldwide. Today it has over a million Consultants and is the fastest growing home business in the world.
Some of those working with Oriflame in the UK have been earning money with the company for over two decades, yet it only in the last three years and most recently with Roy Strong’s decision to join the business that it has begun again to gain the attention of many experienced networkers.
Oriflame have over 400 exclusive products, all made from natural ingredients, beautifully packaged and back by an impressive three-month money back guarantee. Whilst their products are aimed to compete with Clarins and Clinique for quality, Oriflame’s prices are much more affordable. Full-colour catalogues come out every three weeks and include new products, special offers and free gifts to help you keep your customers happy and yourself earning money.
Most people in the business simply hand out catalogues to people they know and earn between 23% and 30% from orders they generate. Others use party plan, door to door or mail order methods to generate orders. You are free to work the business however you wish, and at your own pace.
Additional commission is available if you decide to become a leader and build your own team, plus the chance to qualify for cash bonuses, holidays, prizes and even a company car.
No prior experience is required, there are many people within Oriflame and Roy Strong’s Haydon’s team to help you develop your income and business. Training is provided for those who want it, with courses on getting started, beauty academies and becoming a manager, the nice thing is none of it is compulsory, you can pick and choose the support you need.
Best of all, it is just £10 (or €16 in Ireland) to get started. This pays for your Oriflame Business Case, containing samples, literature and brochures.
Oriflame is currently looking for Consultants and Leaders from all
parts of UK and Ireland, and there has never been a better time to join
the company. To receive your Free Information Pack you can ring Roy on
01206 765012 or email OriflameSuccess@aol.com.
