NEWSLETTER ARCHIVES
AUGUST 2003
1. News
Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter,
the monthly publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways
of earning money from home.Just a short newsletter this month, as I'm sure you've got better things to do in August.
Viruses
You can't have failed to notice the two major virus attacks this month. Even if you
haven't been infected, chances are you've received more than a few e-mails
containing the virus. Just in case you still don't know what action to take to
minimise the risk of infection, here are a few do's and don'ts (primarily for Windows
users only):
- DON'T EVER open attachments in e-mails unless you're expecting them even if they appear to come from someone you know. Many viruses fake the sender's details.
- DO use anti-virus software (AVS) and keep it up to date. AVS is useless unless regularly updated so make a point of updating on a weekly basis at the very least. If you still don't have AVS installed visit http://www.homeworkinguk.com/panda.htm to download free demos and also Free Disinfection Utilities that allow you to easily remove some of the more common recent viruses. Just click on "demo downloads".
- DON'T assume that an attachment isn't a virus just because your AV software doesn't spot it. It can take several hours between a virus being released and the antidote being written.
- DO check with Microsoft for the latest patches to your version of Windows. The recent blaster virus caused havoc to anyone with Windows XP who hadn't loaded a patch released last month (including me). This one was particularly nasty in that you didn't even need to open an e-mail attachment.
- DO consider using an alternative e-mail program to Outlook Express, as most viruses exploit that package. Eudora is free and easy to use and my personal favourite. Download from http://www.eudora.com
2. Featured Business Opportunity
Google Adsense
Whether you've already got a website crammed full of information for others, or you've
considered creating one, but couldn't work out how you could ever make any money from
it, then there is finally a simple foolproof way to make money without having to make
any sales at all.
You've almost certainly heard of Google, for my money the best search engine around.
You may also have noticed that in addition to the usual list of sites you get when
making a search, there are also a selection of paid links prominently listed. Well
now, Google have extended this scheme to include these same listings on quality
content rich sites. You just need to add a couple of lines of code to pages of your
site and you earn every time someone clicks on one of these links. You'll find
these ad boxes on most pages of http://www.homeworkinguk.com if you'd like to see it in action. Although Google are very strict in preventing anyone discussing income they're earning from this scheme, I can say that I've seen an unbelievable amount of income generated from the links on my site, and as the links are selected to match the content of the page, your visitors are likely to be interested in the sites featured. You can block links to competitors or any other sites you think inappropriate.
If you're interested in taking advantage of what must be the best chance ever for
making money online without selling, there's an excellent report at
http://adsense.sitesell.com/websuccessstory.html which
will help you ensure your site is accepted, and help you generate maximum income.
If you haven't yet got your own website, you'll never have a better incentive to get
started.
3. Featured Freebie
This month I've tracked down free inkjet cartridges for most Epson and Canon
printer users - one per new customer. Even if your printer isn't on the list
InkClub offer fair prices on original, compatible and remanufacured ink cartridges,
saving up to 80% on Epson and Canon and 50% on Lexmark and HP. For more details
visit http://www.homeworkinguk.com/inkclub.htm
I hope you've found something of interest this month. Speak to you again next month.
