Welcome to the latest issue of the Homeworking Ideas newsletter, the monthly publication which gives you all the latest news from the UK on ways of earning money from home.
With summer coming to an end and children returning to school, there's an increase in activity everywhere and no more excuses for not getting down to work. Luckily there's also a good selection of new ideas to get you started.
Top Survey Sites
If you like completing surveys, you'll be pleased to hear that this sector too seems
to have picked up in the last couple of weeks. A quick check through my e-mails
shows the following to be the 5 most active at the moment:
- 1. Global Test Market - always near the top of my list. I'm getting one or two requests almost every day and even if you don't qualify the bonus points still add up.
- 2. Lightspeed - This company has been around for years and has always sent regular invitations, but until recently you only ever got entries into prize draws. Whilst I did get a couple of prizes this way, I personally prefer getting a smaller guaranteed amount each time. It looks like the company have listened and you now earn points (usually 100 - 150 per survey) where one point is the equivalent of 1 penny for every survey you complete as well as prize draw entries for pre-qualifiers. Cashing out at just £5 makes this an easy one to earn from.
- 3. Test & Vote - Well established European company. I'm getting invitations every day at the moment, and in addition you can visit the site to volunteer to test new products. Even if you're not selected you still earn points for volunteering.
- 4. Yougov - Whilst not quite the volume, you always qualify for any survey you complete earning around 50p to £2 for each questionnaire, usually around topical matters so there's a good chance you'll read the results in the national papers soon after. Another bonus with Yougov is that if you tell from friends and family about them you earn a 100% bonus on everything they earn for 3 months.
- 5. Yoursay - Whilst not particularly active I just had to include this one as last month I actually won the top prize in their members' draw and am now the proud owner of a very impressive 30Gb Creative Zen mp3 player. My eldest son is green with envy!

Scam News
Following on from last month's warning about job offers you might have received by
e-mail or through an online advertisement. I've come across a report which
although 2 years old, is as valid today as it was then.

to find out how one jobseeker ended up actually being arrested as an accomplice to a
crime, as a result of responding to one of these ads. Similar job scams have been
around for years but shows no sign of going away. Take a look at this report from

where the job offer was solely created for identity theft purposes.
If you are looking for employment or freelance work online, one of the best free sites is craigslist. Probably in the news more often for the crazy swaps made through this site, but they also have a huge jobs section with a check box to search for telecommuting and/or part-time options. You do still get the usual business opportunity ads but there are also many genuine skilled job offers. Generating Traffic
Over the summer I, along with a few colleagues, have been testing several programs which advertise "free traffic". Traffic simply means the amount of visitors that look at what ever business you have. Every business in the world can grow if you can get more visitors. More visitors equal more sales.
A good example is if you have a website that sells either a product or service (every business in the world sells either a product or service). If you just create a website it will not automatically get traffic and will literally be the proverbial needle in a hay stack. You need to get traffic to your site. Whatever business you have you must find a way to drive potential buyers to your business.
Regular subscribers will know that I am a fan of traffic exchanges where you get visitors to your site when you visit the sites of others. Whilst everybody using these sites is primarily interested in promoting a business or opportunity of their own, I've yet to meet anyone who isn't still looking for an additional opportunity or service to generate further income, so the vast majority of surfers are your target audience.
Whilst almost all exchanges offer you the chance to generate visitors at no cost, most offer an upgrade which offers considerable advantages in the way of increased visitor ratios (you need to visit fewer sites to get the same number of visitors) and often includes other benefits.
Of course, just viewing sites can get a little bit boring so the best sites add extra twists to keep you alert and interested. WebCentreSurf has always been one of my favourites as they throw in bonus credits at random intervals (but only if you're paying attention) and after every 50 sites you get a general knowledge quiz with the chance to earn 1000 credits, along the lines of "Who wants to be a millionaire?". For once the questions have a strong British theme but I tend to chicken out at the 125 credit mark so I don't know how tough the later questions are.
Up until now I hadn't upgraded with this site but this week that changed when they announced a major improvement to their membership options. Press Equalizer - Free Search Engine Traffic
As I mentioned above we have been testing several strategies which advertise free or nearly free traffic. Whilst some degree of initial expenditure may be required, by far the most effective on-going free traffic is that which you'll get through a high listing on Google or similar search engines and the strategy with the best results so far in this field is Press Equaliser. A colleague tested this one for me and these are his results:
He submitted information into Press Equaliser for 5 test sites with 10 keywords listed for each of the sites. Press Equaliser then listed this information on numerous websites. It does this automatically; we don't have to find the sites. He then typed these keywords in to Google every day and scrolled down 10 pages to see if we could find any of the 5 websites. For 4 days there was nothing and then on the 4th day all 5 websites started appearing. It was incredible to see.
It works by pasting your information (with your link to your site) on very high ranking websites which Google's robot checks every 3 days for new content! All sites had a traffic increase with the highest recorded increase of traffic of 127%. Not bad for less than 1 hours work!
