Earn Money With Your Photos and Videos

Did you know that there are many companies looking for your photos and videos and are willing to pay you for them? Whilst more money is earned by selling quality, creative photographs, even snaps of family and friends can be shared.

For more information on a career in photography visit our freelance photography section Photography Competitions

Competico claims to offer the world’s leading online photography contests. Whether you’ve been on a family trip recently, captured a fun moment at a friend’s birthday party or taken a funny shot of your pet, you can upload your photos and compete against photographers from all over the world, and gain not only recognition but the chance to win cash prizes too.

Prizes are given for the top 3 photos in each contest, plus bonuses for many more entrants (seems to be anything between 20 and 100+) with the size of the prize fund dependent on the number of entries. Each contest is limited to a fixed number of entries typically 150 or 200 but can be as little as 40, giving you a higher than usual chance of winning.

It’s completely free to register and vote, whilst entering competitions involves a small fee per upload, usually $2 or $3. When you join you receive $3 free which you can use to take part in any of these contests.

The winners of all competitions are chosen by the member community and all voters must be registered members. You vote for your favorite photos and can tell your family and friends to vote for your photos as well. Each member can vote for a photo only once, with up to 5 votes per contest.

Unlike similar online photography contests you may have come across, this site is completely open and transparent with all entries published on the site including details of all prizes and prize winners.

Sell Your Photo

BigStockPhoto.com

To upload photos you need to take a photography test to ensure you understand submission guidelines. Once approved, your photos are added to BigStockPhoto and when users download them, you earn 50 cents to $3.00 per download (or up to $60 for some downloads if you have elected to also sell photos under the Special Licensing agreements). They pay you by cheque or via Paypal or MoneyBookers. Upload a few hundred popular photos and you could find you have a nice recurring monthly income on your hands.

Photostockplus is a revolutionary concept that allows you to upload and sell your work online. They actively promote the stock database and our photographers to a wide variety of buyers guaranteeing you worldwide exposure. They also provide you with the tools and client base to be successful; you keep 85% of the profits.

Images are sold on a royalty free basis which means there is a one time purchase fee for the unlimited use of an image per buyer. You are free to sell your images over and over again and raise or lower prices as you see fit. Unlike traditional agencies you are in control of your own work; you decide which photos to upload and how much to charge for them. You maintain all rights to the photos. You can categorize and add keywords to your images so they can be found by buyers.

Photostockplus.com markets its image database through many innovative means on the internet as well as through industry specific resources. They have relationships with hundreds of companies on the look out for fresh stock. Their sister website shares the identical photo database and is heavily geared and marketed towards the stock buyers to help maximize your image sales.

Dreamstime only accept quality-based photos for inclusion in their database and carefully review each application received. If your pictures are not selected for inclusion in the database, you will be notified via email, including the reason and/or suggestions for improvement. After solving the problem, you can upload them again.

As soon as your application is accepted, your files will be available for sale on the site. Depending on the quality of the shot, composition, subject and print size, the file will have more or less downloads than other similar shots. As soon as a specific file reaches 10 downloads, it automatically becomes a 2nd level file and begins to sell for a higher price. In a similar way, as soon as the file has 100 downloads it becomes a 5th level file. This approach is intended to give an equal chance to all files in the very beginning. It is also a way to encourage good shots that have less downloads, against other similar shots that have many downloads.

For each transaction, the photographer receives a 50 percent fee up to $7.00 per photo. Exclusive images receive a 60 percent fee (up to $8.40 per photo), while exclusive photographers enjoy an additional bonus of $0.20 for each approved submission. According to a recent study of PDN Magazine, Dreamstime awards the highest royalties in the industry.

Shutterstock want your photos! Submit your photos to Shutterstock and get paid every time one of your photos is downloaded. Web designers, magazine editors, and other graphic artists purchase monthly subscriptions to Shutterstock to download photos from our site.

This subscription model encourages buyers to download a greater volume of images than they would at most other agencies. Shutterstock pay you 25 cents every time one of your images is downloaded.
